Travel information

Airport:
For international participants attending the AVC (Africa Valuation Conference) in Cape Town, we recommend booking a flight to Cape Town International Airport (CPT), the main international gateway to the city. Cape Town International Airport is the most convenient arrival point for conference delegates travelling to the event venue and surrounding accommodation areas.

  • Airport transfers are widely available from Cape Town International Airport to the city centre, hotels, and conference venues.
  • Official airport taxis, shuttles, and pre-booked transfers are strongly recommended for a smoother arrival.
  • Car hire is available at the airport if you prefer to self-drive during your stay.

Important new South Africa travel requirements:

  • Mandatory SARS Online Traveller Declaration: Effective 1 July 2026, all travellers entering or exiting South Africa by air, land, sea, or rail must complete an online declaration via the South African Revenue Service (SARS). This applies to citizens, residents, and foreign visitors. See SARS announcement and FAQs.
  • Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA): South Africa has introduced a digital ETA system for international visitors to streamline the visa process. This is a key requirement for many travellers entering the country, so please check your eligibility and complete the process before departure. See ETA information.
  • Recommendation: Please review your specific travel requirements as early as possible and ensure you are compliant before travelling to Cape Town.

Visa:

  • All international conference participants must possess valid identification and travel documents before entering South Africa. Each participant is responsible for arranging their own visa, as per the applicable laws.
  • The conference organisers strongly recommend that all participants check, as soon as possible, the rules for entering South Africa that apply to them. The organisers also strongly recommend that visas be requested at least 2 months before travelling. There have been cases in past conferences where late visa applications from participants led to their inability to attend the conference.
  • The Visitor Visa allows for stays of up to 90 days and is the recommended visa for attending the conference. Citizens from most countries in Africa can enter South Africa solely with their citizen card, while citizens from other countries must carry a passport. Additionally, South Africa offers visa exemption to several countries. Please check this information against the South Africa Embassy or Consulate in your country.
